The Granary – Caring For Life
A major refurbishment of a 16th century grade II listed aisled barn.
The redundant building has been renovated and extended to create a high quality restaurant, farm shop and cafe. The decayed oak structure was restored using traditional repair methods to preserve the fabulous structure for posterity. The tin roof was stripped from the building, the roof structure replaced and a traditional Yorkshire stone roof reintroduced. Under floor heating was added and the walls insulated using sheep’s wool insulation, wood wool boards and finished the traditional lime readers.
To complement the historic structure we added two contemporary structural glass extensions to the building, finished with zinc roofing and oak boarding.
Internally the barn was fitted out with curved glass walls and open kitchen to create one of Yorkshires premier venues.
