Explore A High-End Barn Conversion New Build Home In Wetherby
Exceptional thermal performance and low running costs were crucial criteria for constructing a 3000sq ft, new-build home in Wetherby. A rural North Yorkshire region where planning regulations can be restrictive. Designed for a private client by our Harrogate Architects studio, the high-specification property was built in the style of a barn on a spacious, level site formerly occupied by redundant farm buildings.
Townscape considered various structural solutions and decided on a hybrid timber frame arrangement with an additional blockwork inner leaf to the gables to remain sympathetic to the locality’s heritage. An outer leaf of coursed natural stone in a pale buff/rose shade with sawn stone dressings, together with a blue slate roof, was specified—a style common to the village.
Barn Conversion ServicesThe client desired a low carbon footprint to enable an eco-efficient barn conversion. We carefully considered air tightness and exceptional levels of thermal insulation to minimise running costs and achieve maximum efficiency. Combined with careful attention to construction detailing, our solution included the innovative use of a spray-applied insulation system from Icynene.

This project legislated an open courtyard area bordered by buildings comfortably fitting the rural vernacular. We mirrored this internally with exposed-style beams and skylights within a luxury kitchen design.
