An Idyllic Heritage Property Extension In West Yorkshire Transformed

Discover this heritage property extension in West Yorkshire for the idyllic 19th Century Coach House in Pool in Wharfedale, a Leeds conservation area—a charming residence nestled amidst the tranquil beauty of surrounding woodlands. Our proposal for this unique historic property embodies a fusion of tradition and modernity, meticulously crafted to enhance both functionality and aesthetic appeal while preserving the cherished architectural heritage of the host dwelling.

West Yorkshire Coach House Remodel Designed With Architectural Conservation In Mind

At the heart of our design ethos was to reorder the property for modern family life while respecting the building’s architectural heritage. Our alterations, though modest in size, are underpinned by thoughtful consideration for the Coach House’s architectural integrity, ensuring a seamless integration of new and old. Key elements of our proposal include a strategic re-ordering of the kitchen—a pivotal move to elevate this space into the bustling heart of the home, catering to the evolving needs of a contemporary family lifestyle. This transformation not only enhances the layout’s practicality but also provides improved environmental efficiency.

Extending A Period Home With An Open Plan Kitchen

Careful considerations must be made when extending a period home with an open-plan kitchen. Conservation area special control restrictions must be adhered to, and controls on the building materials must be followed for a sympathetic look. Also, if the height of the kitchen extension is above 4 metres, then additional permissions are applicable. In this case, a modest rear single-storey extension serves as a graceful, light-filled space, seamlessly connecting the kitchen dining area with the playroom and living room. This eliminates the need for rooms to double as corridors and improves spatial flow.

Two-Storey Extension In A Conservation Area

Our expert architectural planners successfully tackled the challenge of building a double-storey extension within a conservation area. Through meticulous planning and attention to detail, we worked closely with the client and the local Leeds planning authority. We created detailed plans and drawings with thoughtful consideration to preserve the property’s character subject to its special architectural and historic interest status under Leeds Conservation Area restrictions.

Meanwhile, a discreet front two-storey extension ushers in a more dignified sense of arrival, culminating in a slightly enlarged bedroom, adding a touch of luxury to the Coach House’s inviting appeal.

Conservation Area Architecture For Modern Day Living

Set against the idyllic backdrop of the Pool in Wharfedale Conservation Area, the Coach House enjoys a privileged position ensconced within the verdant embrace of established woodlands. Its presence, a testament to the timeless allure of 19th-century villas, evokes a sense of tranquillity and serenity.
